This is the 2nd edition of Intel Student Contest 2020 under the Intel – PES MoU under the auspices of CIE @ PESU. In this contest, PESU students have the opportunity to tackle a curated challenge (any one of 5 topics from real-world, crafted by Intel).
This Contest by design is demanding and requires students to combine ingenuity, technical (AI/ML/Coding), and communication skills. A novel feature is the existence of a separate category for demonstrating innovation – allowing students to come up with out-of-the-box approaches.
The culmination of the 7-month long Intel-PES Students Contest 2020 saw the top 15 teams present their final solution on Aug 1st to a jury panel comprising of 9 technologists from Intel.
This year’s edition of the contest was a gruelling contest that started with 99 teams in January comprising of 319 enthusiastic (CS & ECE) student participants, narrowed down to 23 teams for final submissions in mid-July. The entire Intel team was highly appreciative and impressed with the high quality of efforts put in by the students despite the disruption caused by the pandemic.
They were ably mentored by 20+ PES faculty mentors from the CS and ECE departments. In addition to the guidance and mentorship from 9 Intel technologists throughout the contest.
A total prize of Rs. 1.25 Lakh (sponsored by Intel) was shared by 4 teams in 2 categories – Best overall project and Best Innovative Approach.
